Mutual Bank President and COO William J. Morse retires after long career in banking
February 7, 2019
William J. (Bill) Morse has retired from his post as President and COO of Mutual Bank. He will continue to serve as a Director of the Bank, and in that capacity will assist with the Bank’s transition as it merges with North Easton Savings Bank later this year.
Bill came to Mutual Bank in 2006 from Security Federal Savings Bank where, as President and CEO, he helped engineer the merger of the two banks. Earlier he spent more than 20 years with North Easton Savings Bank, rising from branch manager to senior vice president.
A hallmark of Bill’s career has been his role as the Bank’s ambassador in the community, and his unstinting service to a variety of community organizations. At various times he has served as a director of Father Bill’s & Mainspring; chairman of the board of Schools on Wheels of Massachusetts; director of Goddard Health Foundation; member of the Stonehill College Executive Committee for Development; and Trustee and Chairman of the board of Massasoit Community College, where he was a 2012 recipient of the Presidential Medallion Award and in 2013 received an Honorary Degree.
Bill encouraged and lent his mentoring skills to local small businesses as member, director, and chairman of the Metro South Chamber of Commerce; member of Bankers’ Mutual Resource; and as chairman of MASSFIT/Massasoit Financial Institutions Training Program.
Bill and his wife, Louise, lived for many years in Easton, where they raised three children. They are now enjoying their new home in Mattapoisett and visits with their several grandchildren, travel, and continued community service.
CEO Rich Spencer, speaking at a luncheon to honor Bill, said “Today we recognize Bill as a community ambassador for our bank, as a mentor to many, and as a friend. His contributions to the bank and community are immeasurable and he will certainly be missed.”
Well done, Bill! Congratulations on your retirement, and thank you for your leadership and service, from all of us at Mutual Bank.
